With 22 AAU All-Americans, five USA Volleyball All-Americans
and three “Fab 50” players, Orlando is often revered as one
of the elite volleyball locations.
During that time she has served as head coach of several
club and junior national teams. Her team finished ranked

coaching in Orlando, Peterson spent four seasons
as the assistant coach at USF. While with the
Bulls, he helped guide the squad from a 4-22
record in his first season with the team to a
19-10 record in three-short years. Peterson's
primary duties at USF were developing the skills
of both the outside hitters and defensive
specialists and serving as the secondary
recruiter and director of volleyball operations.
Peterson was hired at USF after
having worked with the USA Women's
National Team as it prepared for the
2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. As
an assistant with the national team,
he assisted the head coach in all
facets of practice progression and

coaching sciences department.
Peterson began his collegiate
coaching career as a volunteer
assistant at Florida in 2003. That
season, he helped lead the Gators to
the NCAA Championship match and a
36-2 record. Peterson's primary

individual sessions, scouting of
opponents' offensive tendencies and
charting video for the All-America
selection committee.
The assistant's first coaching
opportunity was at McIntosh High
School in 1999. As the head coach of
the freshman team, he led his squad
to a 15-1 record. Peterson then
moved into club coaching as the
assistant coach of the South Atlanta
Volleyball Club. In 2002, he
returned to McIntosh High to serve
as the head coach of the junior
varsity team and the interim head
coach of the varsity team, leading

Cynthia Ortega Team:
10 Molten Head Coach
Cynthia began playing volleyball at the age of 12. She was
a natural at the setter position and played that position
for her entire volleyball career. She played club
volleyball for six years and was the starting setter on her
high school team (which was one of the top high school teams
in Puerto Rico). Cynthia was named MVP in several high
school tournaments and Athlete of the Year her senior year.
She was awarded a scholarship at University of Sacred Heart,
San Juan, Puerto Rico. After college, her talents were
recognized at the next level and she was asked to play
semi-professional volleyball, which she did for 3 years. She
continued playing in adult tournaments and she and her
husband, Felix Viera, were both awarded the MVP award in a
tournament (this was the first time a couple won the MVP
awards in the same year).
When Cynthia began coaching, she found her niche with the
younger players. She has primarily coached 10U, but also
spent some time working with girls in the 12U age group.
Cynthia coached in a private school and helped develop one
of the strongest school programs in Puerto Rico. She was
successful in leading her teams to the championship bracket
on several occasions. She led her school team to the finals
of the National School Tournament where they won the gold
medal. |

Felix Viera Team:

Felix was a late bloomer by Puerto Rican standards as he
started playing volleyball at the age of 14, but once he
started, he quickly excelled at the sport. For the next
four years he played both high school and club volleyball.
His senior year he was chosen as Athlete of the Year. He was
recognized as one of the top players in his age group and
was awarded a scholarship to play at Central University of
Bayamon, Puerto Rico. After college he played professional
volleyball for 4 years. He was a versatile player which was
to his advantage, as he could help his team in so many
ways. As a professional he played Right Side and Middle
Blocker. After his years in the professional league, he
still had a strong desire to compete and he continued to
play in adult tournaments. He and his wife, Cynthia Ortega,
were the first couple to win MVP awards in the same
tournament. His passion for the game is evident whether he
is playing or coaching.
Felix began coaching club volleyball in 1994 and has 11
years experience working with junior girls primarily in the
10U-14U age group. He came to the U.S. two years ago and
coached at the 16U age division for the first time. Even
though he had a young team with little experience, he was
able to finish the season with a top 20 ranking in the
state. He has had success across the board as he has won
championships with every age group he has coached, including
the Puerto Rican National School Tournament on three
different occasions. |
